GPS to the rescue! Get one

I'm through bumbling around in the dark at night, trying to read small steet signs that are turned away from my unlit road.

Ever since I've had to drive myself everywhere (and when my husband drove and didn't know where he was going) I have been in need of a kindly voice telling me when to get ready, and when to turn in which direction ,so I could find my destination.

As the holiday approached I told my children that at last there is  a holiday gift I really needed. Forget the scarves and perfume. I wanted a GPS that I can set with a destination and that will tell me, inch by inch, in a loud clear voice how to get there. I didn't know it would be so wonderful.

So my grandson Jack, and his sister Sara, and their mother Beth took me to Best Buy on Black Friday. Naturally I protested that I never go near the place in all those crowds. But the kids insisted there would be fantastic door buster sales--and there were.

We went at 1 p.m. after crowds thinned. Two salespeople fought over the right to serve us. We found a Garmen model usually $117, on sale for $84. And if we hesitated it was only one minute, because the salesman told us we would get A $20 further deduction if I opened a charge account. I did. It is going into my desk drawer with other store charge accounts that I used only for one discount purchase. (But that's another blog for another day.)

Most importantly, I'm going to pick up a friend to go to the theater in an hour. She lives on a very dark street, in a cul du sac that I've never visited before. By the time I go there it will be pitch black outside. But I don't care. My GPS will tell me exactly when to turn in and when to park. I know it's going to be helpful when I go to holiday events in the evening, some of which I was undecided about attending because I wasn't sure I could find the venues at night. Now I can.

    Sandy,
I've enjoyed your blogs about your success with the GPS. Please remember to also unplug the cord from the jack. To leave the cord plugged in or draped over the mirror is an open invite for car break-ins because they can see the cord and they'll break in searching for it. Even if you've dropped the GPS device in your purse and the thief is unsuccessful, you've now a broken window and other car damage to deal with. Possibly a tip for a future follow up blog.
